P5 Photo Essay: Neglect
When I first started this, I have the idea for it, yet I don't know what exact theme they fit in. In the end, the word that best describe the overall theme to the photos is neglect. I initially thought of doing my old home, since I know for a long while that it is in complete disrepair, at least to me personally. It fits well with the theme since my family, especially one of them, didn't do a great job keeping it up to everyone's standards compared to me. I won't say who exactly did it. The main aspect for the photos is to show what happens when a house is left behind or didn't get fixed for a couple years. I did my best to capture the best examples of being neglected. They are shown to be rotting away, dust and soot everywhere, torn-off ceilings, with particles getting into the lungs, not to mention the leaking from the rain and snow. Many debris, majority of it not being used in more than 5 years, are cluttered around in every room possible, demonstrating the hoarding nature. After cleaning and organizing numerous times, by one person, everything falls apart from lack of further support from others, and sent all the hard work back to square one. So I have to give up on most of it and leave it to their owners, not being me, further leaving them to disrepair. Here's how it went. Photo 1 is the basement restroom, where it now acts as a garage for my family's stuff. Photo 2 is the basement living room, where it is connected to the laundry section. They bought an overly large couch for a relative, but they didn't stay for too long, so it has to stay with my family. The formation of the couch makes it difficult to traverse and makes it a waste of good space. Photo 3 and 4 are from a bedroom, not mine to clarify. The person who owns the room, prefers everywhere messy as they told me. Lack of discipline drove the room to a bitter state of disfunction and its effects spread outside of it as well. Photo 5 is the dining room, which is more like an office than as intended. The person, who owns it in that manner, has a couple poor spending choices. When I advise them for a better alternative than a bike, they shut it out, leaving the dining room looking like a mess. Photo 6 is the cellar, the shelves portion. The soot spreads out to different parts of the house via vents, the cellar got caught in it. When I told them not to mess with it, this happens. Photo 7 is the kitchen. The broken ceiling is a dead giveaway to the overall condition of the house. Photo 8 is the cellar, the circuitry. As mention before the soot can spread uncontrollably, leaving marks that made it untouchable. And that's the many parts that make its a big theme for neglect. It's a callout to show what the lack of maintenance and negative lifestyles can do in a negative way.
